Recent Amendments to the LSA Bylaws
Approved by the LSA Membership April 30, 2009
At its April 2008 meeting, the LSA Board of Directors began conversations about whether changes to LSA’s governance structure could strengthen the pursuit of the new Ends Policies. The LSA Board of Directors continued its exploration over several meetings, voting unanimously at its November 2008 meeting to recommend several changes to the LSA Bylaws. A White Paper (PDF,118 K) from LSA identifies the issues the Board of Directors explored and the amendments to the LSA Bylaws that were approved by the LSA membership at the 2009 Annual Meeting on April 30, 2009.

The following images and chart illustrate the current and proposed amendments to the LSA governance structure. Other amendments include changing the Board Officer role of Chair-Elect to Vice Chairperson to better accommodate the flow of Board member terms; moving the start of Director and Officer terms to July 1 to align with current practice; clarifying voting protocol language to reflect the new LCMS recognition process for subsidiaries of LCMS-recognized organizations so as to be in alignment with the voting protocol of one vote per organization (This change results from an expansion of the LCMS recognition process to include subsidiary organizations.); and changing title of the ELCA Church in Society program unit to conform to current ELCA language.
