LSA Financial Wellness Service

BACKGROUND:

The economic landscape of America has changed over the past decade so that now many families are overextended and face debt stress (eg- credit card debt, student loans, medical debts). Within the broad network of LSA member agencies, many employees would like to find the path toward financial wellness, but don't know where to turn for help.

In addition, consumers face heavily-advertised debt scams such as debt "settlement" services and avoidable bankruptcy filings, which destabilize credit and financial well-being.

LSA has created a national access point for LSA member agencies and their employees to turn for help with any money management and credit and debt problems - and get on the path of financial wellness.

How confidential is this service?
Count on it. Your calls and all services provided are private and no information is ever shared with your employer unless you specifically request that with a signed release. The purpose of the service is to provide you with safe, confidential resource to discuss finances.

How free is this service?
Completely. Financial counseling is provided free of any fee. This is a helpline with no sales pressures and no hidden charges. Separate from financial counseling, there are services which do charge a fee (eg- monthly debt management plans or bankruptcy counseling) but these are optional and fees comply with state and federal laws.

Who are the financial counselors?
LSA Financial Wellness Service uses three collaborating LSA member agencies which are also members of the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC) - Graceworks Lutheran Services, Lutheran Social Service of MN, and Lutheran Social Service of SD. All counselors are certified consumer credit counselors and all collaborators.

Do I have to qualify for this service?
Every employee of LSA member organizations, and their family members, can use this service. People of all incomes and situations can face financial problems, so this service is provided as a resource for building financial wellness - for all people, regardless of income, race, color, creed, religion, sex, sexual orientation, disability, or age.
