Seniors, Children and People with Disabilities Rely on Medicaid—Converting Medicaid to Per Capita Caps Puts our Nation’s Most Vulnerable People at Risk
WASHINGTON – Lutheran Services in America President and CEO Charlotte Haberaecker issued the following statement on the American Health Care Act:
“As introduced, the American Health Care Act will jeopardize the health care and long term services and supports of millions of Americans by fundamentally restructuring Medicaid in the form of per capita caps, decreasing federal spending on Medicaid and reducing overall levels of health care coverage.
“Two-thirds of seniors in nursing homes, 39 percent of American children and over nine million people with disabilities are covered by Medicaid. Converting Medicaid to a per capita cap program will put our nation’s most vulnerable people at risk.
“We urge members of the House to reject the American Health Care Act.”
