Wednesday, February 3, 2016

It's an exciting time at Lutheran Services in America, Incorporated (LSA) as we welcome two new interns to our Washington, D.C. office for the spring semester as part of the Lutheran College Washington Semester (LCWS).

Hayley Johnson – Marketing and Communications
Hayley is a junior at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., majoring in political science and communications. At LSA, she is working with our Marketing and Communications team to help execute several of our upcoming leadership events, including the Lutheran Leadership Summit and the Annual Conference. During her internship, she will also support our social media outreach efforts, public relations strategy, and contribute to our newsletters and website. As a student at Concordia, Hayley has worked on a number of large campus events and as a volunteer event planner for the local Chamber of Commerce. Hayley also served as a Student Ambassador at Concordia and was the recipient of the Presidential Distinction Scholarship. She is a member of the university's golf team and has volunteered with the Moorhead area's Adopt-a-Grandparent program.

Alex Johnston – Member Engagement
Alex is a junior at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, Calif., pursuing a degree in international relations and political science and recently returned from a semester in Brussels, Belgium. During his internship at LSA, Alex is supporting our member engagement team's knowledge management efforts, focusing on ways to help us improve both how we collect and use data. He will also support a variety of advocacy and public policy projects on behalf of our members. Alex is an avid runner, competing on the California Lutheran University track and field team and has volunteered at local schools as a teacher's aide.

About the Washington Semester
Since 1986, the Lutheran College Washington Semester (LCWS) has welcomed 40 to 50 students to Washington, D.C. each spring and fall semester, working with 13 Lutheran colleges and universities. During the semester, students continue their studies through rigorous classes and academic programming while completing a professional internship experience at organizations throughout the DC metro area. The internship portion of LCWS is designed to complement each student's existing academic work and to help them prepare for future professional opportunities. LSA is blessed to work with LCWS to create rewarding internship opportunities for students.

Please join us in welcoming Hayley and Alex to LSA and our nation's capital.
