RAAN ROOTED IN CARE REPORT
“Rooted in Care: Transforming the Future for Rural Family Caregivers” highlights the essential role that rural family caregivers play in supporting older adults. Drawing on national data and insights from caregivers in rural states, the report shows that caregivers, who provide more than $1 trillion in unpaid care annually, face significant emotional, financial, and logistical challenges. Many provide extensive weekly care with little support and limited access to services like respite care, all with the backdrop of ongoing workforce shortages and declining rural health infrastructure.
This report outlines policy recommendations to strengthen support for rural caregivers, including the expansion of access to home- and community-based services, improvement of respite care, reduction of a financial burden, and the building of a sustainable care workforce. The report calls on federal and state leaders to invest in community-based solutions that ensure caregivers, and the people they support, can thrive with dignity, stability, and choice.
